  • ‘Huimangchan’ is a new japonica rice variety developed and registered by the rice breeding team of Department of Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, NICS, RDA in 2011. This variety was derived from the three-way cross of ‘Milyang165’, ‘Shindongjin’ and ‘YR19105-Acp222’. This variety has about 126 days of growth duration from transplanting to harvesting in Honam and Youngnam plain of Korea. It is about 91 cm in culm length and tolerance to lodging. In reaction to biotic stresses, it shows moderate resistance to blast, resistance to bacterial blight pathogen races from K1 to K3, and rice stripe virus, but susceptible to other major diseases and insect pests. The milled rice of ‘Huimangchan’ has high quality, midium short grain. The milled rice yield of this variety is about 6.18 T/ha in local adaptability test for three years. ‘Huymangchan’ would be adaptable to Middle plain, Honam plain and Youngnam plain area of Korea.

국내 벼 재배면적은 줄어들고 있으나 단위 면적당 생산량 증가, 쌀 소비 감소와 쌀 수입량 증가로 국내 쌀 재고는 늘어 나고 있다. 한편 지구온난화에 따른 이상기온의 증가(Heo & Lee 2006)로 병충해 발생 및 재해빈도가 높아지고 있으며, 국민 생활수준이 향상되어 식생활 패턴이 고급화됨에 따라 가공성이 좋고 안전성이 높은 다수성 쌀의 요구도가 크게 높 아지고 있다(Choi 2002, Ha 2012). 이에 국립식량과학원 벼 맥류부의 벼육종연구진은 병에 강하고 가공적성이 좋으며 내 도복성 및 다수성인 품종육성에 노력을 기울여 왔던 바 ‘희망 찬’을 개발하여 2011년 농촌진흥청의 직무육성 신품종 선정 위원회의 심의를 거쳐 중부이남 평야지에 보급하게 되었다.
본시험은 2009~2011년까지 3년간 호남평야지, 중부평야 지, 영남평야지 6개 지역에서 보통기 다비재배(N-P-K=18-11 -13 kg/10a)로 수행하였고 표준 품종 ‘한마음’과 비교 검토하 였다(RDA 2009, 2010, 2011a, 2011b). 각 지역에서 시험에 공시한 품종은 보통기 다비재배로 4월 30일에 파종하여 5월 30일에 이앙하였고 재식거리는 30 × 12 cm로 주당 5본씩 재 식하여 ‘희망찬’과 비교 검토하였다. 시비량 및 질소 분시방 법은 농촌진흥청 표준재배법에 준하였고 기타 생육, 수량특 성, 생리장해 및 병해충 저항성, 도정특성 조사는 농촌진흥청 신품종개발 공동연구사업 과제 수행계획서 조사기준에 준하 여 실시하였다(RDA 2011a).
육성경위
‘희망찬’은 양질 내병 다수성 벼를 육성할 목적으로 2000 년 하계에 국립식량과학원 벼맥류부에서 내병 다수성인 ‘신 동진벼’에 ‘YR19105Acp222’를 교배한 F1에 ‘밀양165호’를 3원교배한 계통으로 수량 및 내병성 등이 우수하여 ‘HR22431’ 로 계통명을 부여하였다. 계통육성과정은 F3 이후부터는 계통 육종법에 의하여 육성 선발하면서 주요 병해충 및 미질검정 을 실시하였다. 2008~2009년 생산력 검정시험을 실시한 결 과(벼맥류부 2008, 2009) 직립이면서 도열병, 흰잎마름병 및 줄무늬잎마름병에 저항성인 ‘HR22431-22-4-2-1’ 계통을 선 발하여 ‘익산525호’로 계통명을 부여하였다. 2009~2011년 3년간 지역적응시험과 각종 특성 검정을 실시한 결과, 내병 양질 다수성 계통으로 우수성이 인정되어 2011년 12월 농촌 진흥청의 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정 심의회에서 ‘희망찬’ 으로 명명하여 중부이남 평야지 1모작지 적응 품종으로 보급하게 되었다. ‘희망찬’의 육성과정과 계보도는 Fig. 1 및 Fig. 2와 같다.

주요특성
출수기 및 주요 농업적 특성
‘희망찬’의 출수기는 호남평야지, 중부평야지 및 영남평야 지 보통기 다비재배에서 평균 출수기가 8월 17일로 ‘한마음’ 보다 3일 늦은 중만생종이다. 간장은 91 cm로 ‘한마음’보다 15 cm 크며, 주당수수 및 수장은 각각 11개, 23 cm로 비슷하 고 수당립수는 114개로 많다. 등숙비율은 85.9%로 ‘한마음’ 보다 높으며, 현미천립중은 27.2 g으로 ‘한마음’과 비슷하다 (Table 1).

생리장해 저항성
종자를 파종하여 60일이 경과한 후 못자리 상태에서 위조 현상과 불시출수는 나타나지 않았으나 포장에서 성숙기에 하 엽노화는 빨랐다. 종자를 항온기에 넣고 25°C에서 7일 동안 조사한 결과 20.7%로 ‘한마음’보다 높았다. 춘천에서 찬물의 관개수를 계속하여 흘려 보낸 후 실시한 내냉성검정에서는 임실율이 49%로 유묘기 내냉성이 ‘한마음’에 비해 강하였고 출수지연일수는 짧았다. 포장도복은 ‘한마음’과 비슷하며 발 생하지 않았다(Table 2).

병해충 저항성
3년 평균(2009~2011년) 전국 14개 지역에서 실시한 잎도 열병 밭못자리 검정에서 강 3개소, 중 7개소, 약 4개소로 ‘한 마음’보다 약한 저항성 반응을 나타내었고, 4개 지역에서 실 시한 목도열병 포장검정에서는 이천, 제천, 익산에서 경미한 발병을 보였으나 ‘한마음’보다 발병률이 낮았다. 흰잎마름병 (KI, K2, K3) 접종결과에서는 모든 균계에서 강한 반응을 보였 고, 줄무늬잎마름병 검정에서는 저항성을 나타내었다. 벼멸구 등 기타 병해충에 대한 저항성은 없었다(Table 3, 4).

도정 및 품질 특성
품질특성에 있어서 쌀의 외관은 심백이 약간 있으나 ‘한마 음’보다 맑고 투명하다. 한편 밥맛과 관련이 있는 단백질 및 아밀로스 함량은 각각 6.1, 19.1%로 ‘한마음’보다 낮으며 관 능평가를 실시한 결과 밥맛이 매우 우수하였다. 또한 도정율 이 68.6%로 ‘한마음’보다 높았다(Table 5). 특히 가래떡 제조 시 탄성과 검성이 높아 떡 맛이 우수하여 떡볶이나 떡국용에 알맞은 품종이다(Table 6).

수량성
6개 지역에서 3년간(2009~2011년) 지역적응시험을 수행 한 결과 보통기 다비재배(N-18kg/10a)에서 평균 쌀수량이 6.18 T/ha로 ‘한마음’보다 4% 증수된다(Table 7).

적응지역 및 재배상 유의점
‘희망찬’은 중부이남평야 1모작지에 알맞은 품종이다. 키 가 크기 때문에 도복에 주의하여야 하며 과비하지 않아야 한 다. 또한 도열병, 흰잎마름병(K1-3) 및 줄무늬잎마름병에는 강 하나 기타 병해충에는 약하므로 적기에 기본방제를 철저히 하여야 한다.
‘희망찬’품종은 국립식량과학원 벼맥류부에서 다수성 품종 을 육성할 목적으로 2000년 하계에 ‘밀양165호’를 모본으로 ‘신동진벼’와 ‘YR19105-Acp222’를 교배한 F1을 인공 교배 한 계통이다. F3 이후부터는 계통육종법에 의하여 육성 선발 하여 2008년부터 2009년까지 생산력검정을 실시한 결과 수량 성이 높고 내병성인 ‘HR22431-B22-4-2-1’계통을 ‘익산525 호’로 계통명을 부여하였다. ‘익산525’호는 2009년부터 2011 년까지 3년간 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 수량성이 높고 내 병성이 강한 우수한 계통으로 인정되어 2011년 12월 농촌진 흥청 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정 심의회에서 ‘희망찬’으로 명명하였다. ‘희망찬’의 주요특성을 보면 보통기 다비재배에 서 평균 출수기가 8월 17일로 ‘한마음’보다 3일 늦은 중만생 종이다. ‘희망찬’의 간장은 96 cm로 ‘한마음’보다 15 cm 크 며, 주당수수 및 수장은 각각 11개, 23 cm로 비슷하고 수당 립수는 114개로 많다. 등숙비율은 85.9%로 ‘한마음’보다 높 으며, 현미천립중은 27.2 g으로 일반 품종보다 무거운 편이 다. ‘희망찬’ 쌀의 외관은 심백이 약간 있으나 ‘한마음’보다 아밀로스 함량이 낮고 밥맛이 좋으며, 특히 가래떡 제조에 알 맞은 품종이다. ‘희망찬’의 내병충성에 있어서는 도열병, 흰잎 마름병 레이스 Kl-3 및 줄무늬잎마름병에는 저항성 반응을 보 였으나 멸구 및 매미충류에는 약한 반응을 보였다. 내냉성에 있어서는 유묘 내냉성이 ‘한마음’보다 강한 편으로 임실률은 약간 높다. ‘희망찬’의 쌀수량은 6개 지역의 보통기 다비재배 에서 6.18 MT/ha로 ‘한마음’보다 4% 증수되었다. 이상의 결 과를 종합해 볼 때 ‘희망찬’의 재배적응지역은 중부이남 평야 지 1모작지에 알맞은 품종이다.
