  • ‘Matdream’ was derived from a cross between ‘Yeongdeok34(Pungmi)’ and ‘Ilpumbyeo’ in 2001. This variety had a heading date of August 8 in Gyeonggido. It had a semi-elect plant type and resistance to lodging with strong culm. Its culm length was 78 cm. This variety had 12 tillers per hill and 122 spikelets per panicle. It was a medium grain variety, and the 1,000 grain weight of brown rice was 22.2 g. Its cold tolerance was stronger than that of ‘Hwaseongbyeo’. This variety had wind tolerance. It was moderately resistant to rice blast diseases and had stripe virus resistance, but was susceptible to bacterial leaf blight, other virus diseases, and insect pests. Its appearance of milled rice was clear and its milled rice had lower amylose and protein contents than that of ‘Hwaseongbyeo’. Its palatability of cooked rice was better than that of ‘Chucheongbyeo’, which was harvested in Suwon. Its head-rice percentage after milling was 74.4%, which was higher than that of ‘Hwaseongbyeo’. The yield of milled rice was 5.17 MT/ha under the ordinary culture of the local adaptability test in four areas of Gyeonggido for three years. Under early transplanting cultivation, its yield of milled rice in 2011 was 5.69 MT/ha in the central plain area, Suwon. ‘Matdream’ was highly adaptable to the Gyeonggido area, especially to the northern region of Han River (품종보호번호: 제5087호).

최근 국내외 쌀에 대한 현황은 매우 어려운 상황에 놓여 있다. 기상변화가 점점 더욱 심해지고 있어 기상재해가 빈번해지고 병해충이 증가하면서 안정적인 작황을 기대하기 어려워 졌으며, 쌀의 품질도 저하됨으로써 소비자들을 만족시킬 수 없게 되면 줄어들고 있는 쌀 소비량이 더욱 줄어들 수 있는 원인이 될 수 있다. 국내 쌀 소비량은 2017년 기준 국민 1인당 연간 쌀 소비량이 61.8 kg으로 역대 최저치였으며 지속적으로 줄고 있는 추세이다. 통계청 조사결과에 의하면 2017년도 전국 쌀 생산량은 397만 2천톤으로 전년대비 5.3% 감소하였고, 경기도 쌀 생산량도 379,989톤으로 전년대비 8.2% 감소하였다. 벼 재배면적은 전국 754,713 ha로 전년보다 3.1% 줄었으며, 경기도 재배면적도 78,483 ha로 전년보다 2.8% 줄어들었다. 10a당 쌀생산량은 2017년에는 전국 527 kg, 경기도 484 kg으로 전년보다 각각 2.2%, 5.7% 줄어들었다. 대외적으로는 2015년부터 쌀 관세화 유예가 종료되었고 기존 의무수입물량 409천톤은 관세화 이후에도 5% 관세율로 수입이 허용되는 상황이다. 농촌경제연구원에 의하면 최근 10년간(’07~’16) 연평균 약 35만톤의 쌀이 초과 공급되었으며, 현 추세가 지속될 경우 향후 10년간 연평균 약 29만톤의 쌀이 과잉 공급될 것으로 전망했다. 또한 소비감소폭이 생산감소 폭보다 커서 재고가 누증되는 구조적 공급과잉이 발생한다고 했다. 농림부에서는 이러한 수급불균형 해소를 위해 시장격리 등 단기적이고 사후적인 조치를 취해 왔으나, 정부재고와 재정투입이 증가되는 등의 문제가 제기되고 있다. 근본적 문제 해결을 위해서 쌀 생산농가의 타작물 전환과 같은 사전적 생산감축 노력과 함께 쌀 적정생산 운동을 하고 있는 상황이다. 이렇게 현재 우리 쌀에 대한 여건은 상당히 어려운 실정으로 우리 쌀의 경쟁력을 높여야만 되고, 우리 쌀의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있는 하나의 방안으로 농민, 소비자 및 쌀가공업체 모두가 선호할 수 있는 벼 품종, 즉 기상변화가 심해지고 있는 조건에서도 재배적으로 안정하고 내재해성인 최고품질 벼 품종을 개발하는 것이 가장 중요하다.
경기도 벼 재배면적은 78,483 ha로 전국의 10.4% 정도를 차지한다. 경기도의 주요 밥쌀용 벼 재배품종은 조생종으로 오대벼와 히토메보레, 중생종은 고시히카리, 맛드림과 하이아미(Hong et al. 2011), 중만생종은 추청벼, 대안벼 및 삼광벼(Kim et al. 2007) 등이다. 이중 추청벼가 경기도 벼 재배면적의 60% 정도를 차지하고 있는데 도복 등 재배안정성이 낮고 더구나 최근 기상이변으로 인한 자연재해가 빈발하고 있기 때문에 취약성이 높아지고 있다. 특히 고시히카리는 품종인지도는 높으나 도복과 병해충에 약하여 재배안정성이 낮게 평가되고 있다.
경기도농업기술원에서는 2003년부터 경기지역에 적합한 밥쌀용 벼 신품종 육성을 시작하였고 특히 한수이북지역에 적합한 숙기를 갖추면서 재배안정성이 우수한 고품질 벼 품종 개발에 노력을 기울여 온 결과, 농촌진흥청 국립식량과학원과 공동으로 계통을 육성하여 쌀 외관, 밥맛 및 백미완전미율이 양호하고 내풍성, 내도복성, 저온발아성과 줄무늬잎마름병 저항성인 고품질 밥쌀용 중생종 ‘맛드림’을 개발하여 경기도 등에 보급하게 되었기에 그 육성경위와 주요특성을 보고하고자 한다.
본 시험은 ‘맛드림’(‘경기1호’)를 2009년부터 2011년 3년간 중부평야지 화성, 수원, 여주, 연천 4개지역에서 보통기 보비재배로 표준품종으로 ‘화성벼’(Moon et al. 1986)와 비교 검토하였고, 2011년에는 조기재배로 1개소(수원)에서 ‘조평’(Nam et al. 2013)과 만기재배로 2개소(익산과 밀양)에서 ‘금오’와 비교 검토하였다(RDA 2010a, 2011a, 2012). 조기와 보통기재배는 각각 4월 10일과 25일에 파종하여 5월 10일과 25일에 재식거리 30×15 cm로 주당 3본씩 이앙하였고, 만기재배는 6월 15일에 파종하여 7월 10일에 재식거리 30×12 cm로 주당 5본씩 이앙하였으며, 기타 재배관리는 농촌진흥청 표준재배법에 준하여 재배관리를 하였다. 주요 생육형질, 수량구성요소, 수량성, 생리장해, 병해충 저항성, 미질 및 도정특성 조사는 농촌진흥청 신품종개발 공동연구사업 과제수행계획서 조사기준에 준하여 실시하였다(RDA 2009, 2010b, 2011b). 조사통계처리는 SAS(Statistical Analysis System, V. 9.1, USA) 프로그램을 이용하였다.
주요 특성검정은 다음과 같은 방법으로 하여 조사하였다. 아밀로스 함량은 요오드 비색정량 분석(Juliano)법으로 하였다. 벼 잎도열병검정은 14개 지역에서 밭못자리상태로 파종하여 30일 후 이병 정도를 조사하였고, 목도열병검정은 6개 지역 포장에서 질소과비조건으로 재배하여 이병 정도를 조사하였다. 벼 흰잎마름병 검정은 K1, K2, K3 및 K3a 균계를 대상으로 하였으며 접종을 위한 균주 증식은 pentone sucrose agar(PSA) 배지로 활력을 회복시켜 bacto nutrient broth 분말을 증류수 1L에 8 g씩 녹여 고압멸균 후 병원균을 28°C에서 진탕배양하였다. 배양된 병원균은 108~109cells/ml농도로 조정하여 최고분얼기에 각 균주별로 품종당 4개체의 엽선단 5 cm 부위를 가위로 절엽하여 접종하였다. 접종 2주 후에 각 개체에서 가장 긴 병반을 가진 3개 엽의 병반장을 측정하여 그 값을 평균하여 병반장에 따라 5 cm 이하는 저항성(R), 5~10 cm는 중도저항성(MR), 10 cm 이상은 이병성(S)으로 질적 저항성을 구분하였다. 벼 바이러스 검정은 본엽 2~3엽기에 벼 바이러스 이병주에 매개충을 흡즙시킨 보독충 애멸구를 이용하여 접종 후 30일에 조사하였다. 저온발아성 평가를 위해서는 13°C에서 15일간 처리 후 발아율을 조사하였으며, 32°C 처리를 표준으로 하여 비교하였다. 내냉성 검정은 국립식량과학원 춘천출장소에서 이앙 후 20일부터 등숙기까지 수온 17°C, 수심 5 cm로 냉수처리 후 출수지연일, 임실율 등을 조사하였다. 도복지수는 5월 상순 이앙재배에서 모멘트(moment)/좌절중으로 산출하였으며, 모멘트(g⋅cm)는 벼키(간장+수장)×지상부총생체중이고, 좌절중(g)은 간기부에서 3번째 절간 중앙부에 하중을 걸어 부러질 때의 무게로 출수 후 20일에 조사하였다.
육성경위
2001년에 ‘영덕34호’(풍미벼)를 모본으로, ‘일품벼’를 부본으로 하여 농촌진흥청 국립식량과학원에서 교배하였고, 계통육종법에 따라 세대를 진전시키면서 초형과 미질특성이 우수한 계통(개체)를 선발하여 2006년에 F6 계통을 육성하였다. 이후 2007년에 경기도농업기술원 벼 연구포장에서 생산력검정 예비시험(PYT)을, 2008~2009년에 생산력검정 본시험(RYT)을 실시하여 고품질 우수 계통으로 SR27936-GH1-20-1-1을 선발하여 경기1호로 지정하고 2009~2011년 3년간 4개소(화성, 수원, 여주, 연천)에서 지역적응시험(LAT)을 실시하였다. 그 결과 2011년 11월 30일에 개최된 농촌진흥청 농작물 직무육성 신품종선정위원회에서 중생종으로 밥맛이 우수하고 재배안정성이 높은 품종으로 인정되어 ‘맛드림’으로 명명하였고 벼 신품종으로 선정되었다. ‘맛드림’의 육성과정과 계보도는 Fig. 1과 Fig. 2와 같다.

주요특성

1. 출수기 및 주요 농업적 특성

경기지역 중부평야지 및 중북부곡간지에서 ‘맛드림’의 평균 출수기는 8월 8일로 화성벼보다 6일 정도 빠른 중생종이다. 주요 농업적 특성으로 간장이 78 cm로 화성벼보다 짧고, 이식길이는 21 cm로 비슷하며, 주당수수는 12개로 적었다. 수당립수는 122개로 화성벼보다 많았고, 등숙률은 88.0%로 비슷하였으며, 현미천립중은 22.2 g으로 약간 가벼웠다(Table 1).

2. 병해충 저항성

‘맛드림’은 전국 14개소에서 실시한 잎도열병 밭못자리 검정, 도열병 내구저항성 검정 및 목도열병 이병수율 검정결과 도열병에는 화성벼보다 강한 중도저항성을 보였다(Table 2). 바이러스 중에서 줄무늬잎마름병에는 저항성이었으나 오갈병과 검은줄오갈병에는 저항성이 없었으며, 흰잎마름병과 멸구류에 대한 저항성은 없었다(Table 3).

3. 생리장해 저항성

‘맛드림’은 저온발아성이 97%로 화성벼보다 높았고, 냉수처리 내냉성검정 결과 화성벼에 비해 출수지연일수가 짧고 냉수구 임실율이 높아 화성벼보다 내냉성이 강하였다. 불시출수 와 수발아 비율은 화성벼보다 약간 높았으나, 성숙기에 하엽노화가 느리며 위조현상은 없었다. 내풍성검정 결과 백수율이 10%로 내풍성은 강하였다(Table 4). 도복관련 특성검정 결과 화성벼보다 좌절중이 무겁고 도복지수는 낮았으며 포장도복은 발생하지 않아 도복에는 강하였다(Table 5).

4. 미질 및 도정 특성

‘맛드림’의 립형은 현미장폭비가 1.72로 단원형이며 쌀알이 맑고 심복백이 적어 외관품위는 양호하였다. 단백질과 아밀로스 함량은 화성벼보다 낮았으며 밥맛은 화성벼와 추청벼보다 우수하였다(Table 6). 제현율과 도정율이 화성벼보다 약간 낮았지만 백미완전미율이 97.4%로 높아 완전미도정수율이 74.4%로 높았다(Table 7).

5. 수량성

‘맛드림’은 2009~2011년 3년간 중부평야지 3개소와 중북부곡간지 1개소에서 실시한 지역적응시험 결과 보통기 보비재배에서 평균 쌀수량이 517 kg/10a로 화성벼와 유의한 차이가 없었다. 2011년 실시한 조기재배 중부평야지 1개소에서 쌀수량 569 kg/10a로 대조품종인 조평보다 수량성이 높게 나타났고, 만기재배 남부평야지 2개소에서 쌀수량 394 kg/10a로 대조품종 금오보다 약간 높았으나, 각각 유의한 차이는 없었다(Table 8).

6. 적응지역 및 재배상 유의점

‘맛드림’의 적응지역은 경기지역 중부평야지와 중북부곡간지이다. 중생종이나 고온일 경우에는 출수가 빨라질 수 있다. 질소질 비료 과용시 도복의 우려는 적으나 미질저하, 등숙저하, 숙색불량 및 병해충 발생이 우려되므로 적정 균형시비를 하여야 한다. 줄무늬잎마름병에 강하고 도열병에는 중도저항성이나 흰잎마름병, 오갈병, 검은줄오갈병 및 멸구류에 저항성이 없으므로 적기 기본방제를 하여야 하며, 잎집무늬마름병은 필수적으로 방제하여야 한다. 주당수수가 적은 편으로 이앙시 재식거리를 좁히거나 재식본수를 많이 하는 것 또는 조기재배와 같이 이앙기를 앞당겨 영양생장기간을 늘리는 것이 수량 확보에 유리하며 분얼비 시용이 필요하고 수수가 적게 확보 되었을 때에는 이삭거름을 시용하는 것이 유리하다. 등숙에 소요되는 일수가 비교적 긴 편으로 조기수확을 지양하여야 한다.
‘맛드림’은 경기도 한수이북지역에 숙기가 알맞은 고품질 밥쌀용 벼 품종개발을 목표로 하여 2001년에 영덕34호(풍미벼)를 모본으로, 일품벼를 부본으로 하여 농촌진흥청 국립식량과학원에서 교배하였고, 계통육종법에 따라 세대를 진전시키면서 초형과 미질특성이 우수한 SR27936-GH1-20-1-1을 선발하여 2007년에 경기도농업기술원에서 생산력검정 예비시험을, 2008 ~ 2009년 생산력검정 본시험을 실시하였다. 2009~2011년 3년간 4개소(화성, 수원, 여주, 연천)에서 ‘경기1호’라는 계통명으로 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 2011년 11월 농촌진흥청 농작물 직무육성 신품종 선정위원회에서 중생종으로 밥맛이 우수하고 재배안정성도 높은 품종으로 인정되어 ‘맛드림’으로 명명하였고 벼 신품종으로 선정되었다.

‘맛드림’의 입형은 단원형이며 쌀이 맑고 심복백이 적어 외관품위는 양호하였다. 단백질과 아밀로스 함량은 화성벼보다 낮았으며 밥맛은 화성벼와 추청벼보다 우수하였다. 백미완전미율과 완전미도정수율이 높아 도정특성이 양호하였다. ‘맛드림’의 쌀수량은 517 kg/10a로 화성벼와 유의한 차이가 없었다. 2011년 실시한 조기재배 중부평야지에서 569 kg/10a, 만기재배 남부평야지 2개소에서 394 kg/10a로 각 대조품종과 유의한 차이가 없었으나 중부평야지 조기재배에서 수량성이 높게 나타났다. ‘맛드림’은 경기지역 특히 한수이북지역에 알맞은 중생 고품질 밥쌀용 품종이다.
